Baker Mayfield Calls It “Ridiculous” That Buddy Hield Didn’t Win Player Of The Year

first_imgA closeup of a helmetless Baker Mayfield.NORMAN, OK – DECEMBER 3: Quarterback Baker Mayfield #6 of the Oklahoma Sooners during warm ups before the game Oklahoma State Cowboys December 3, 2016 at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. Oklahoma defeated Oklahoma State 38-20 to become Big XII champions. (Photo by Brett Deering/Getty Images)Thursday afternoon, it was announced that Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine – not Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield – had won the AP’s Player of the Year award in college basketball. Valentine had a fantastic season, leading MSU to a Big Ten Tournament title and a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament, but there is certainly a faction of fans who believe that Hield, whose dominance has been on display the past two weeks, was the most deserving player.Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield – who is probably a little biased – is one of them. Mayfield took to Twitter this afternoon to call it “ridiculous” that Valentine won the award over Hield. He even went as far as to say that Hield got “robbed.”This is ridiculous, POTY is supposed to go to the best player. Our man got robbed. Plus who’s team is still playing? https://t.co/k0uiq17kur— Baker Mayfield (@baker_mayfield6) March 31, 2016Whoever voted on this should be ashamed of themselves. We know who the real POTY is. Buddy deserves it, and he’ll show us why these next 2— Baker Mayfield (@baker_mayfield6) March 31, 2016Mayfield also noted that it’s Hield’s OU squad, not Valentine’s MSU, that is still playing. We imagine that Mayfield’s opinion will be popular in Norman.last_img read more

Simeone praises Joao Felix after another standout showing

first_imgDiego Simeone praised Joao Felix after the teenager’s impressive start at Atletico Madrid continued against Juventus on Saturday.Felix scored one and set up the other as Atletico completed a perfect pre-season with a 2-1 International Champions Cup victory over Juve in Stockholm. The 19-year-old arrived at the La Liga giants from Benfica for a reported €126 million in July and has scored three goals and provided four assists in five pre-season games. Article continues below Editors’ Picks Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? Simeone has been impressed with what he has seen from Felix, who netted 20 times in 42 games in all competitions for Benfica last season.”Joao has many capabilities. He is adapting very quickly to what the team needs,” the Atletico coach told a news conference.”He has a vision that allows him to adapt to many positions and is in a process of adaptation and the best thing he has is that, I said from the first day, his desire to learn.”He wants to learn and with that the adaptation process will be shorter. Talent is innate, but the desire to learn is the shortest path that a player has to perform.”Atletico have gone through a rebuild in the close season, the likes of Felix, Marcos Llorente and Kieran Trippier joining, while Antoine Griezmann, Rodri, Lucas Hernandez, Diego Godin, Juanfran and Filipe Luis are among those to have left.Argentina forward Angel Correa is also linked with a move to AC Milan, but Simeone expects the 24-year-old to stay at Atletico.”We are open to everything that can happen, transfer wise. There is nothing that can surprise us because obviously there is always something happening until the end so we have to be prepared for that,” he said.”Angel Correa is training in an extraordinary way since he arrived back and there’s not any situation that leads me to think about him leaving the team.”Correa had a difficult season in front of goal in 2018-19, scoring just five goals in all competitions and three goals in 36 games in La Liga. Atletico begin their La Liga campaign at home against Getafe on August 18.last_img read more

While there is no question about his ability to scout talent, his fashion sense is another debate.Baker Mayfield has trolled Dorsey in the past for his style choices, which means more jokes could be on the way after today.Dorsey was caught on the sidelines for the game, wearing orange Nike sneakers, shorts and an overcoat. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)A new report has revealed when exactly star Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered his ankle injury in the SEC Championship Game win over Georgia.According to AL.com, the Crimson Tide’s sophomore quarterback suffered his high ankle sprain on their fourth offensive snap of the game.Tagovailoa attempted to gut out the injury, but was eventually replaced by Jalen Hurts. It was a bad game for Tagovailoa, who had been the Heisman Trophy favorite up until that point. Now, many expect Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray to win the award.Alabama is reportedly frustrated by this, as Tagovailoa’s poor showing against Georgia was mostly due to him trying to play injured.“Tua suffered the high ankle sprain — a bad one — on Alabama’s fourth snap vs. Georgia, not on the play during the fourth quarter. Frustrating for people at Alabama is that Tua trying to gut it out and stay in the game may end up costing him the Heisman,” AL.com reporter Matt Zenitz tweeted.Tua suffered the high ankle sprain — a bad one — on Alabama’s fourth snap vs. Georgia, not on the play during the fourth quarter.Frustrating for people at Alabama is that Tua trying to gut it out and stay in the game may end up costing him the Heisman.https://t.co/ukkVKguxs3— Matt Zenitz (@mzenitz) December 6, 2018Tagovailoa has already lost out on one major award. Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban Responds To Retirement Odds

(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)With the recent retirement of Bill Snyder, Alabama head coach Nick Saban has climbed even higher on the list of oldest active football coaches. People are so curious as to when he’ll hang the headset up that odds have been released on when it will happen. As of May, the sports book MyBookie.com has set the over/under on the number of seasons he has remaining at five-and-a-half. His current contract at Alabama runs through 2025.This week Saban was asked for his thoughts on the betting odds for his retirement, and he would not be baited into revealing anything. Per AL.com, he stated that he wasn’t even aware of the odds placed and found the idea “amusing.”“That’s the first I’ve heard of that one,” Saban said Thursday at the Old Overton Club in Vestavia Hills, site of the Nick’s Kids charity golf tournament. “But it’s amusing.”Saban is preparing for his 13th year at the helm for Alabama and is chasing his sixth national title with the Crimson Tide. He is also closing in on 47 years as a coach dating back to his first job with Kent State in 1973. But just because Saban is getting a bit long in the tooth doesn’t mean his age is showing.Mentally he’s still sharper than the overwhelming majority of coaches.Physically, he just underwent a hip replacement but has recovered from the surgery faster than doctors originally suspected.Suffice it to say, Saban isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.[AL.com]last_img read more
