Dak Prescott’s agent floats $34M per year with Cowboys, report says

first_img Cowboys’ Jerry Jones doesn’t see ‘any consequences’ for Ezekiel Elliott incident at music festival Cowboys’ Amari Cooper shocked Michael Irvin with this comment “I think the people that are doing the deal feel the same way, so to me, it’s no rush. I know it will get done,” he added.Prescott, a two-time Pro Bowl player, has completed 66.1 percent of his passes and thrown for 67 touchdowns, along with 25 interceptions, throughout his career. The Cowboys have a 32-16 record in his starts and have made the postseason twice in his three NFL seasons. The Cowboys finished 2018 with a 10-6 record and advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs, where they fell to the Rams. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said in recent months that reaching a new deal with Prescott is a priority for Dallas, adding: “We are sold on Dak.” Both Jones and coach Jason Garrett have praised the franchise’s quarterback, pointing to his leadership as the main reason they want to reach a long-term deal. “Just that how he handles it all,” Garrett said Thursday. “How he handles success, how he handles adversity and how he handles all the different situations that he’s in. He comes to work every day and he’s got an incredible spirit. His eyes are always bright, he’s got a bounce in his step, his shoulders are back, he’s got a smile on his face regardless of what the results have been.“He’s ready to work and ready to set the pace for everybody. He leads by example, completely engaged, completely locked in every situation we put him in. He loves playing ball, he loves the role that he’s in and guys respond to him and it’s been that way right from the start.””My only focus is within the locker room.”@Dak says he’s not worried about getting a new contract. He’s confident it will get done.@dallascowboys @wfaa pic.twitter.com/BDslDdt55B— Joe Trahan (@JoeTrahan) May 16, 2019As for Prescott? He said in May that he wants “to be a Cowboy forever.”  Dak Prescott has a high asking price for his next contract. The Cowboys quarterback’s agent Todd France has floated out a range of $34 million per year on the heels of Eagles’ Carson Wentz’s record-breaking four-year, $128 million contract, according to the Dallas Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which cited unidentified sources.  Jason Witten: Cowboys ‘extremely loyal to signing their own’ Prescott, entering his fourth season in Dallas and the last on his rookie contract, was vague about the status negotiations.“Yeah, I’m involved. It’s about me,” Prescott said after the team’s minicamp Thursday. “But they stand where they stand. … It happens when it happens. I’ve got my cowboy hat on, so I’m a Cowboy. Let’s say that.” Related Newslast_img read more

Raiders profit from Gruden, Carr bickering

first_imgFor a couple of guys who are supposed to be in the process of “tanking” a season to secure the top spot the NFL draft, Jon Gruden and Derek Carr acted Sunday in a manner that suggested a 23-21 road win over the Arizona Cardinals was kind of a big deal. They acted that way during the game, when at least two disagreements went viral on Twitter. They acted that way after the game, when they were clearly happy and relieved to have snapped a five-game losing streak. For those who believe in the …last_img

Matchups for the NBA Finals between the Warriors and Raptors

first_imgTwo-day strike in Bicol fails to cripple transport Golden State: Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.Toronto: Kyle Lowry and Danny Green.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSPalace wants Cayetano’s PHISGOC Foundation probed over corruption chargesSPORTSSingapore latest to raise issue on SEA Games food, logisticsAnalysis: All respect to Lowry, whose toughness and leadership are both comically overlooked because people tend to see only scoring, but this matchup clearly tilts Golden State’s way. Curry and Thompson have averaged 42.5 points combined in their first 22 finals games together and even on their bad days are two of the most feared shooters in the game. Toronto simply needs more from Green, who is shooting only 32 percent in the playoffs and 31 percent from 3-point range. Toronto won the last four games of the Eastern Conference finals even while Green went a staggering 1 for 15 from 3-point range. But he’s had enormous moments in the finals before, and is a 52 percent shooter from 3-point land in 12 previous finals games.Edge: Warriors. Iguodala is a past Finals MVP and Green may be playing the best basketball of his life right now, with keeping his emotions in check yet another bonus for the Warriors. Siakam has had great moments in these playoffs and is likely the most improved player in the NBA this season. But this matchup comes down to Leonard, who has willed the Raptors through every tough moment they’ve faced in the postseason and has put himself in the best-player-in-the-world-right-now conversation. The Leonard vs. Green (or Iguodala) matchup when the Raptors have the ball will be fascinating.Edge: Even, based on the plan that Durant is missing some of the series.ADVERTISEMENT Catholic schools seek legislated pay hike, too Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. Nurse has dealt incredibly well with the pressure that accompanied being a first-year coach who just happened to be replacing the reigning NBA coach of the year in Dwane Casey and had to lead a win-now-or-else team that went all in on moves to get players like Leonard and Gasol.Edge: Warriors.INTANGIBLESThe Warriors have 10 players with a combined 140 games of finals experience; the Raptors have four players who have been in a combined 38 finals games. And the Warriors’ total doesn’t even count 49 finals games for Kerr (27 as a player, 22 as a coach). … First time in the finals for Toronto, last time in the finals for Oakland — the Warriors are leaving Oracle Arena for the new Chase Center in San Francisco after this season. … By the time the finals start, the Warriors will have gone 24 days since losing a game (May 6, Game 4 of the West semis against Houston) and by the time the series shifts to Oakland on June 5 they will have gone 20 days without a home game. … Toronto won the regular-season series 2-0. Before that, the Warriors had won 16 of the last 18 games between the teams.Edge: Warriors, because of the experience factor. STARTING CENTERGolden State: Jordan Bell (presumably).Toronto: Marc Gasol.Analysis: Gasol has waited a long time for this first taste of the finals, and Bell — if he does actually start, which is in some doubt — has 35 points in 11 games this postseason. And don’t be surprised if DeMarcus Cousins, who has never played in a finals game and missed most of these playoffs with a quad injury, is back on the floor early in the series for the Warriors and back as a starter not long after that. So far in the playoffs, Gasol has made more 3s (28) than 2s (27) and 55% of his points have come from beyond the 3-point line.Edge: Raptors, largely because of the uncertainty surrounding Cousins’ availability.BENCHGolden State: Kevon Looney, Shaun Livingston, Quinn Cook, Andrew Bogut.Toronto: Fred VanVleet, Norman Powell, Serge Ibaka.Analysis: The Warriors’ bench rotation will change if Cousins and/or Durant return. Golden State has averaged 24.6 points off the bench in the playoffs, which doesn’t look so hot, but a deeper dive shows how effective certain things have been for the Warriors. Looney has been fantastic, shooting 72% (50 for 69) in 329 minutes off the bench, and Livingston is looking for his fourth ring as a key reserve. Ibaka, assuming he doesn’t start at center, will get big minutes for Toronto and plays the two-man game with Leonard like they’ve been together for seven years instead of seven months. And VanVleet came up big time and time again toward the end of the East finals, his emotions bolstered by the birth of his son midway through that matchup.Edge: Raptors, slightly.last_img read more

Fed holds steady eyes two rate hikes this year

first_imgThe Federal Reserve held interest rates steady on Wednesday and indicated that moderate U.S. economic growth and “strong job gains” would allow it to tighten policy this year, with fresh projections showing policymakers expected two quarter-point hikes by the year’s end, half the number seen in December. The U.S. central bank, however, noted that the United States continues to face risks from an uncertain global economy.”A range of recent indicators, including strong job gains, points to additional strengthening of the labour market. Inflation picked up in recent months,” the Fed said in a policy statement in which it kept the target range for its overnight lending rate at 0.25 percent to 0.50 percent.”However, global economic and financial developments continue to pose risks” and will keep inflation low for the remainder of 2016, it said.In a press conference, Fed Chair Janet Yellen said it remained to be seen whether a recent firming in U.S. core inflation, which excludes volatile energy and food components, would be sustained.Fed policymakers projected weaker economic growth and lower inflation this year and lowered their estimate of where the targeted lending rate would be in the long run to 3.30 percent from 3.50 percent — a signal that the economic recovery would remain tepid. The interest rate outlook is a shift from the four hikes expected when the Fed raised rates in December for the first time in nearly a decade. The majority of policymakers now said they expected it would be appropriate to raise rates by about a half a percentage point by the end of this year.”Our first take on this is that it probably leans slightly more dovish, relative to expectations,” said Tom Porcelli, chief U.S. economist at RBC Capital Markets in New York. The dollar fell against both the euro and the yen in the wake of the statement. Bond yields from two to 10 years hit session lows, while stock markets rallied, with the S&P 500 hitting its highest intra-day level since Jan. 4.CAUTIOUS APPROACHThe new rate outlook came as the Fed attempts to steer through recent global market volatility and keep its rate hike plans somewhat intact. The Fed had adopted a cautious approach at its last policy meeting in January, amid a sell off on financial markets, weaker oil prices and falling inflation expectations. As in its January policy statement, the Fed did not say directly how it regards the balance of risks to the U.S. economy.last_img read more
