first_imgATHENS – Rebounding from a tough loss against another Turkish team, Greek basketball power , Panathinaikos defeated Galatasaray 86-77 to lift its mark in Euroleague group play to 3-2.Playing without a bevy of starters – Nikos Pappas, Lazaros Mavrokefalidis and American AJ Slaughter – the Greens nonetheless started off strong to keep the visitors at bay in an NBA-style game featuring dunks and run-and-gun action.The home team let down on defense in the final quarter, giving up 31 points to let the Turkish team draw closer but the result wasn’t in doubt.  Still, in European play, the margin of victory is one of the tie-breaking factors at the end of the 14-game mini-league.Latvian star Janis Blooms scored a Euroleague career record of 16 points to lead Panathinaikos’s scorers.
