CCTV OF ALLEGED HARASSMENT OF CANDIDATE TO BE REVIEWED

first_imgMembers of Christy Galligan’s campaign team say they are to review CCTV footage next week of an incident at Market Square in Letterkenny in which a campaign car was blocked by protestors.Election candidate Christy GalliganThe car had been driving through the Main Street with speakers playing music when members of a water charges protest obstructed the vehicle for a number of minutes.A Garda investigation is now underway into the incident. Galligan said “This was mob mentality in the extreme. My niece Amy Rose Harte had been driving through the town when her car was wrecklessly set upon by protestors on the Market Square, and they managed to block it for a number of minutes. Traffic was also backed up.“Despite my niece’s repeated requests to move out of the way, particularly because her younger sister was in the back seat, they persisted in hurling vile and abusive language at the blocked car, while others just stood back and watched. My two nieces were terrified and extremely upset by the episode.”A formal statement was immediately made to the Gardai and CCTV footage of the episode will be observed next week in a bid to identify those involved.Outraged Christy Galligan said he would not stand for abuse and intimidation. “I believe in peaceful protests – they are part and parcel of local democracy. What I don’t believe in, however, are wreckless protestors who intimidate and abuse people, including innocent children, for their own naked political agenda. There is no room for such criminality in the local democratic process, and they should be ashamed of themselves.” CCTV OF ALLEGED HARASSMENT OF CANDIDATE TO BE REVIEWED was last modified: May 21st, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:abuseChristy GalligandonegalintimidationletterkennyMarket Squarelast_img
