Lotus Haus is located at Gyeohak Road, Suseong-gu, Daegu, and adjacent to many educational facilities. The site is adjacent to 12m-wide road including sidewalk to the north and 21m-wide dead-end road to the east. In the area where the 12m-wide including sidewalk is located, it is relatively slow in its development due to difficulty in constructing parking lot and narrow vehicle road.Save this picture!© Moon Jung sikThe site with northern face has 1.3m level difference from south to north. The road facing the north includes the sidewalk so it is determined that parking lot is inefficient. Thus, a pilotis parking lot was constructed at 1.3m level on the dead-end road in the east. Accordingly a commercial building was planned in the spare space in the north (front), and the floor height was planned sufficiently as 4.4m. The exterior finishing of the first floor was exposed concrete coated with 6cm of plywood.Save this picture!© Moon Jung sikThe staircase extended from the first floor to the owner house on the third floor was planned to face the northern road to protect privacy. The staircase is not constructed with spiral staircase but a staircase to express unique spatiality and high ceiling. The windows installed outside the staircase and stainless steel perforated plates was designed to allow bright natural lighting. The shadows of lotus patterns induced into the inside along with the movement of the sun create the changing interior spaces with various patterns.Save this picture!SectionThe house consists of total 3 houses, one on the second floors and 2 on the third floor including the owner’s house. The 2 houses on the third floor are double-layer houses. The living space was designed to face south or east. To protect privacy, stainless steel perforated plate door were installed on the windows.Save this picture!© Moon Jung sikEntering into the entrance of the owner’s house designed as 2-layer from the third to the fourth floor, the lengthy corridor will welcome with soft atmosphere decorated with indirect lightings. Along with the corridor, staircase to the living room, bathroom, reading room and bed room are arranged side by side. The living room on the fourth floor faces south with outdoor terrace. In particular, taking into account that it is the space to take a rest after work, the direct lighting was minimized and indirect lightings were used mostly to hide the lighting source. It is the consequence to consider fatigue of eyes by direct lighting.Save this picture!© Moon Jung sik‘Lotus Haus’ named from the stainless steel perforated plate on the front side create unique landscape in the center of the city. It is hoped that the bright staircase toward outside shall brighten the town in the dark night, and the house shall become bright, comfortable, well-protected, warm and not tired of for a long time.Save this picture!© Moon Jung sikProject gallerySee allShow lessUnlooped Kino in St. Petersburg / Ira Koers + Roelof MulderSelected ProjectsLiving Anatomy: an Exhibition about Housing at Harvard Graduate School of DesignEvent Sharelast_img read more

Uruguayan Navy Implements Moodle System for Distance Education

first_img In its academic courses, the Uruguayan Navy has begun to make use of the Moodle system, a platform that enables the development of distance-education formats and the establishment of interpersonal relationships between students and teachers and that generates a space for the analysis and discussion of academic and professional issues. At this time, the technology is being applied to the delivery of three courses: research methodology, individual research, and teacher training, which trains instructors to improve their performance in the Comprehensive System of Naval Education. The Naval War College (Escuela de Guerra Naval) plans to implement this platform gradually, with a major qualitative leap being the delivery of the Command Course, which is taken by lieutenants for promotion to lieutenant commander and is now fully functional through the exchange of emails between students and teachers. This system will permit the Uruguayan Navy to move to the forefront of the educational changes underway around the world. At the same time, officers will be able to receive a higher-quality and more practical education, since they will not have to attend in person all the classes held at the War College. Mammoet-Giant joint venture joins Greater Changhua foundation ops

first_imgA joint venture of Mammoet and Giant Heavy Machinery Services has started working with Sing Da Marine Structure Corporation (SDMS) on the locally-produced jacket foundations for the Greater Changhua offshore wind project in Taiwan. The joint venture will be performing the assembly, transportation and load-out of the jackets, each weighing approximately 1,200t. At the end of 2018, Ørsted signed a contract with SDMS to supply 56 jacket foundations for the 900 MW Greater Changhua 1&2a project. Four jackets are expected to be simultaneously assembled. Seventy-two axle lines of SPMT will then transport each jacket up to 1,200m from the fabrication line to a storage area, Mammoet said.center_img The PTC200-DS Ring Crane will assemble the jackets by first upending the lower jacket structure before installing both the upper structure and transition pieces at a single location. South Korea’s Samkang M&T will deliver 28 foundations and Hyundai Steel Industries the remaining 27 units. The wind farm will feature 111 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines installed some 35 to 50km off the coast.last_img read more
