Conway Springs boys finish 2nd in Kingman Tournament.by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — After knocking off two Class 4A opponents in the pool play of the Kingman Tournament Classic, Conway Springs was looking to come home with a championship trophy. Things looked good for awhile, as the Cards were leading 25-19 against Sterling at the half in the championship game Saturday. But Sterling came roaring back and would eventually beat Conway Springs 56-51. The game was knotted at 41-all midway through the fourth quarter, when Sterling would rattle off seven consecutive points and would never relinquish the lead thereafter. It was the first loss of the season for the Cardinals in the Paul Lange era. In the first three games, Conway Springs beat bigger schools like Chaparral, Wellington and Kingman.Sterling would go on a 19-9 third quarter run and that proved to be the difference. “We were facing foul trouble all night,” Lange said. “(Josh) Dugan got four fouls and that took us out of our rhythm.”Conway Springs had trouble with the Comleys — Kylar and Kienan — who scored 18 and 13 points respectively.“This was a difficult game to prepare for,” Lange said. “We played three straight games in three nights. So it’s hard to make any kinds of adjustments.”Conway Springs had an even distribution of scoring with three players in double figures. Dugan and Dylan Murphy both scored 12 while Jacob Winter had 11. Sterling: Kienan Comley 13, Richter 9, Briar 11, Kylar Comley 18. Sterling7121918center_img Follow us on Twitter.
