However, Iyer used all his experience and stitched a 125-run stand with his captain Virat Kohli for the 4th wicket. On the other hand, Pant, who continued to bat at No. 4, managed only 20 before playing a horror shot to throw his wicket away.Iyer kept the scorers busy right from the word go and scored 71 at more than a run-a-ball. His well-paced knock had 5 boundaries and a six. Iyer perished in the 46th over while trying to accelerate at the death.”In my view, Rishabh Pant is much better like an MS Dhoni at 5 for 6 as a finisher because that’s where his natural game and natural flair will come into play. If India get to a great start with Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma batting for 40-45 overs, then Pant at No. 4. But if it’s a question of batting for 30-35 overs, then I think it should be Shreyas Iyer at No. 4 and Pant at No. 5,” Sunil Gavaskar told Sony Ten 1.advertisement”He [Sheryas Iyer] has grabbed his opportunity. He came at No. 5. He had plenty of overs. He had the company of his skipper, Virat Kohli. Nothing quite like it because the skipper takes the pressure off you. You learn from the best batsmen in the world. The best place to learn in cricket is the non-striker’s end. That’s what Shreyas Iyer was doing with Virat Kohli at the other end,”Sunil Gavaskar also said Iyer hadn’t done anything wrong to miss the World Cup berth but expressed confidence that he will get a longer run now in ODI cricket.”I think, if this doesn’t help him get a more permanent slot in the Inidan middle-order, I don’t know what will. In the 5 matches, he played before this, he scored 2 fifties and hit a highest score of 88. He hadn’t done anything wrong to be left out of the 14 (15) (World Cup). But that’s in the past,” Gavaskar said.”Now he has come back and scored a 71 in his first opportunity. So I think he will get a longer run.”Earlier in the day, Virat Kohli said India are looking at No. 4 and No. 5 as floating positions in the batting order.”For me, top-3 and probably 6 and 7 are specialist batting positions than four and five. I think it has become a topic of debate for a long time. In ODIs and T20s, four and five are your flexible guys,” Kohli said.Having taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series, India will be hoping to win the ODI rubber as well when they face West Indies in Trinidad on Wednesday. Notably, the visitors had whitewashed West Indies 3-0 in the T20I series. Also Read | Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar help India thrash West Indies in 2nd ODIAlso Read | India vs West Indies: Virat Kohli ends 5-month hundred droughtAlso Read | Virat Kohli breaks Javed Miandad’s record for most ODI runs vs West IndiesFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to Like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter for Sports news, scores and updates.Get real-time alerts and all the news on your phone with the all-new India Today app. Download from Post your comment Do You Like This Story?
